voices need to be heard

now is the time act
It doesn't matter what channel I flip to, or what platform I'm on, it's hard to miss what's going on in the world. Right now, things are being turned upside down and people are screaming louder than ever, hoping to be heard. It doesn't matter what time it is, there will be a live feed for the protests going on around the city, the state, the country, and even the world. There is unrest in every corner and it is hard to ignore it. There are sitcoms and daytime tv shows alike losing their screen time due to the coverage that as a viewer is hard to look away from. As I'm sitting in my own home, my eyes seem to be glued to all of it. after watching the live feed for so long, I fall into a sort of trance. When I finally pull away I see everything all over again on my phone. Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest feeds all revolve around the world's events. There seems to be no escape from it all.

Currently, I am stuck at home. I watch all of these events unravel in front of my own eyes in real-time, wishing I could be out there myself. I wish I could shout and chant and take a knee for a cause that is bigger than anything I could do by myself. But I am stuck at home with no sure or safe way to get there myself. I stay home and become a part of the at-home audience.

While looking at posts for this whole movement I see "blackout Tuesday." I understand it but don't see how this is meant to improve or move this movement forward. All people are doing is posting a black screen to say what? "Look at me! I'm doing something!!" Those pictures don't do anything but flood and block real messages out. By using  #blacklivesmatter or #blm with these posts, everything else gets pushed lower and lower. And for what? Your pitch black screenshot to promote your "can do" attitude.

Since I know I can't join the masses, I struggle with what to do. I am left at home trying to put together what I can do to contribute or to spread to others. Then it comes to me. Something small I can do is create art and share what I believe. Above is the painting I made. This is simple and small, but when I posted it I wanted to tell people to do more than just post their black picture. I hope that what I did has some impact and brings someone else to do something, even if small. Below I have left a link where you can sign a petition to get justice for George Floyd. As tragic as his death was, let's not let his pain be forgotten.

here you can sign the petition to make a difference:
